COACHES.

Meet the team

Here at Sandton Seals Swimming, we have dedicated coaches with a passion for the sport. Below follows some more information about each coach.

Chantelle Kuperus

Hi my name is Chantelle and I've dedicated my career to helping individuals of all ages and abilities achieve their swimming goals. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and celebrates each student's individual progress. My lessons are a perfect blend of fun and focus, ensuring students not only learn proper technique but also develop a lifelong love for the water.

My love for swimming began at the young age of 12 when I entered my first school swimming gala. I had no idea what I was doing, but from that moment on, I was hooked! Driven by my new found interest I joined a club, trained hard, and competed in pool, lifesaving and open water events. Swimming was an integral part of my life growing up and my experience sparked a passion that has stayed with me ever since.

So today, I bring that same love for swimming to the pool deck as your coach. With 10 years of experience I strive to create a fun and positive environment where swimmers of all ages can discover their own lifelong love and passion for the sport.

Monica

Hi, my name is Monica, and I am deeply passionate about coaching. My love for sports began in primary school, where I excelled across various disciplines, earning colors in athletics, high jump, javelin, long jump, and netball. However, swimming quickly became my favorite. The feeling of being in the water during early morning squad sessions before school and training again in the evenings was simply unmatched.

In 2011, during my matric year, a friend mentioned her mother’s friend was looking for help at a swim school. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. That decision marked the start of my coaching journey, and for the next nine years, I worked at the same swim school branch. I coached children of all ages, from 6-month-old babies in TOT swim and Learn to Swim (LTS) programs to teenagers in squads and even adults.

While working, I pursued a four-year program at ETA (Exercise Teachers Academy), where I studied sports science, coaching science, and specialized training for children, pregnancy, and older adults. I also earned certifications in nutrition, Netball Level 3, LTS, First Aid, and CPR. These studies deepened my expertise and helped me grow into a well-rounded coach.

After completing my studies, my days were filled with joy. Mornings were spent personal training, and afternoons were dedicated to the swim school. I loved the balance of both roles and felt fortunate to be doing work that never felt like a job.

In 2018, I met my husband, and by early 2020, we moved in together during the pandemic. Unfortunately, the commute to the swim school became too demanding, and I made the tough decision to leave. I began managing MissFit Boxing Studio, where I ran the gym single-handedly, learning valuable leadership and management skills. Despite the growth opportunity, I missed working with children and being in the water.

When I discovered Sandton Seals Swimming, I knew it was the perfect fit. Coaching combines my love for teaching, fitness, and fun. I take pride in fostering a safe, engaging environment where swimmers of all ages can achieve their goals. I balance discipline, patience, and care, ensuring that every swimmer feels motivated and empowered. I am excited to be part of such a special team and continue making a positive impact.
